GRANDVIEW HEIGHTS, Ohio (WTVN) --The Grandview Heights School Board voted unanimously Tuesday night to rename the middle school as Larry Larson Middle School in honor of the former teacher and 610 WTVN sports anchor.

In a letter to the community, Superintendent Ed O'Reilly says the recommendation came from a committee of people from the Grandview Heights community, which cited Larson's 50 year commitment to students and the impact he left on them as a teacher, coach, athletic director and camp counselor.

O'Reilly says the building housing students in grades 4-5 will retain the name registered with the state of Ohio as Thomas A. Edison Elementary. The building housing students in grade 6-8 will now be known as Larry Larson Middle School.

Larson served in the Grandview Heights School District from 1966 to 1994.

Known as "Mr. High School Sports", he covered sports for 610 WTVN from 1991-2011.

He retired in 2011 and now lives in Ladera Ranch, California.
