COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN) --A suspected robber shot by Columbus police during a holdup Wednesday is in critical condition.
Police say the victim was part of a group of two adults and three teens they followed to the area around Astor Ave. and Kellner Rd. Officers had been conducting surveillance on the group, since they were suspected in a number of Columbus-area robberies.
According to police, the group came out of the Family Dollar store in the 900 block of James Rd. after holding up an employee at gunpoint. When they were met by SWAT officers, one of the suspects got out of a car with a gun and was shot several times. The other suspects stayed in the vehicle and were arrested without incident.
Investigators believe they can tie the group to about a dozen robberies in the Columbus area just since the end of September.
