Train derails in Delaware Co

DELAWARE, Ohio (WTVN) -- Dozens of train cars jumped the tracks around 2 p.m. Tuesday northeast of Delaware.

The Delaware County Sheriff's office says no one was injured and there is no danger to the public since the train was carrying only grain.

"Having a hard time counting all the train cars that are involved in it. If I had to guess I'd say 25 or 30 kind of twisted up," said Steve Slater, pilot of Sky6 from our news partners at ABC6.

The derailment happened in the area of U.S. 42 and Horseshoe Road.

Norfolk Southern operates the train, but said the derailment also damaged tracks owned by CSX in the area.

NS does not have an estimated time for when all of the cars will be re-railed and the spilled contents removed from the scene.

The train had two crew members, three locomotives and 87 loaded cars. It departed Clarksfield, Ohio, and was heading for Loudon, Tenn.
