A high school student in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is using his 3D printer to make tourniquets to send to Ukraine. Kenowa Hills High School student Maxwell Dinesen’s 3D printer was collecting dust in his room at his parent’s house. But after seeing the horrifying images coming out of Ukraine following the invasion by Russian forces, he decided to put his printer to use to help Ukrainians.
Along with a group of more than three dozen other 3D printing enthusiasts in West Michigan, Dinesen started printing the parts to make tourniquets to help Ukrainians in the war zone. Charles Elwood, the organizer of the effort collects the parts and ships them to Denmark where they are put together and sent to Ukraine.
Even though Dinesen has no medical experience, that’s not stopping the teen from helping. "Like, I have the opportunity to help and there's no reason why I shouldn't. So, if I can help, why don't I help?" he says. "I never thought I would use this for anything that would actually help people, but I can." Dinesen says anyone with the right tools can make a difference in this fight.
