A New York comic book writer performs some real-life superhero moves, risking his own safety to save a girl being attacked by a group of teens. Earlier this month, graphic novelist and comic book writer David Gallaher were walking through his Brooklyn neighborhood when he saw a young girl being attacked by a group of teens. He says the teens had the girl pinned up against a car window with her arm pinned against her back. Gallagher, 46, yelled for the teens to leave the girl alone and pulled out his phone to call 911.

That’s when Gallaher says the teens turned their attention to him. Surveillance footage of the incident shows Gallaher confronting the teens, then one of them punches him in the side of his head. Another teen grabs a garbage can and hurls it at Gallaher and then throws a large rock at him, hitting him in the side.

Gallaher was treated for a broken cheekbone and kidney damage at a nearby hospital, but the hero says he doesn’t regret stepping in to help. “At the end of the day you may get punched, you may get pummeled, but if you're standing up for what's right, that's the most important thing," he says.
