Former NBA player Dennis Rodman says he's heading to Russia to help negotiate the release of Brittney Griner.
The WNBA star has been detained in the country since February and was sentenced to nine years in prison on drug charges.
Rodman has a history of conducting informal diplomacy for the U.S. thanks to his relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and the subsequent release of American Kenneth Bae.
He told NBC he has plans to travel to Russia this week and claims he knows President Vladimir Putin "too well."
