There’s a new alcoholic beverage currently blowing up on TikTok that has been made popular by Emma D’Arcy’s character, Princess Rhaenyra in the HBO series House of the Dragon. Emma appeared in a TikTok video with co-star Olivia Cooke when Cooke asked her what her drink of choice is. Her answer was “A Negroni sbagliato with prosecco in it” and the response went viral.
To review, a classic Negroni is a drink made with gin, Campari and sweet vermouth, but the Negroni Sbagliato was actually created in 1972 by accident at Milano’s Bar Basso by Mirko Stocchetto. “Sbagliato” means “mistaken” in Italian and that’s exactly what happened to create this variation. Stocchetto picked up sparkling wine instead of gin and the rest is history. Instead of making a traditional Negroni, just substitute prosecco for the gin and you have your Negroni Sbagliato. Here’s the specific recipe:
- 1-ounce Campari
- 1-ounce 1757 Vermouth di Torino Rosso (or sweet red vermouth)
- 1-ounce Cinzano Prosecco (or your preferred prosecco)
- Build the ingredients over ice in a rocks glass and garnish with an orange slice.
