#GoodNews: Facebook Post Helps Reunite Dog With Homeless Owner

A dog is reunited with her homeless owner after a Tennessee animal shelter turns to social media to find them. Last week, McKamey Animal Center of Chattanooga (MAC) posted on Facebook to tell the heartbreaking story of a dog that had been brought to them named Lilo. The nonprofit animal center said that the German shepherd-Great Pyrenees mix had been brought to them with a note attached to her collar.

"Please keep my name. My name is Lilo. Please love me. My mom can't keep me and is homeless with 2 kids," the note reads. "She tried her best but can't get help. I cost too much for her. She really loves me & I'm a great dog & love to be loved on. Please don't abuse me." The staff at MAC were moved by the note and wanted to find a way to reunite Lilo with her family and help them to stay together.

The day after they posted photos of the note and of Lilo, MAC received a call from Lilo’s owner and they soon reunited them. Staff at MAC reached out to local agencies and nonprofits to help get the family set up in a pet-friendly shelter and to help them get back on their feet. They also announced a new program established in Lilo’s honor that aims to help families experiencing homelessness and financial hardship to be able to keep their beloved pets.
