We told you last week about the Detroit family whose dog, Blue, wouldn’t leave the family’s one-year-old baby’s side when their apartment caught fire. Well, while Janet Kelly’s family was fortunate to escape the blaze unharmed, they did lose everything they own in the fire that started in a neighbor’s apartment.

Kelly created a crowdfund to help get her family back on their feet, but a week after the fire, it had only raised $290, just enough for the family to pay for a couple of nights in a motel. Then word started to spread about Kelly’s hardship and their fundraiser started to get some more donations. The initial goal of the crowdfund was $10,000, which Kelly later realized wouldn’t even begin to help them rebuild their lives.

Now it’s at around $100-thousand, thanks to nearly 2-thousand donors including a $25-hundred top donation from actress Kristen Bell. The actress, who grew up not far from Kelly’s burned-down apartment, is well known for donating to crowdfunds. In an update to the crowdfunding page, Kelly thanked everyone who pitched in. “I would like to thank everyone for all the help and everything,” she writes. “This money will be applied to a new home for us. No more donations are needed.”
