Utah governor Spencer Cox has signed a landmark bill that requires teens to get parental permission before joining social media sites.
The law signed Thursday will impose a digital curfew, blocking sites for minors past 10:30 p.m.
It'll also blackout ads for underage accounts and compel social media companies to allow parents access to their children's profiles.
Lawmakers say the bill is vital to protect a generation of kids suffering from a mental health crisis.
Critics, however, have concerns regarding safety and privacy, and say many of the guidelines are too hard to enforce.
