It ain't easy being a live broadcaster these days - a lot of minefields exist that weren't always there, and radio and television broadcasters have to adjust accordingly. The rule of thumb is, "When in doubt - leave it out." A Mississippi news anchor didn't, and it cost her her job.
Barbie Bassett was live on the air when she used a fairly common phrase (if it were 1992) - "Fo' shizzle, my nizzle." It's a phrase originally coined by E-40 and popularized by Snoop Dogg, and, hopefully, unbeknownst to Bassett, breaks down as "For sure, my n---a."
When you're a legendary rapper, you can get away with that. When you're a white news anchor, perhaps not so much - and the anchor was canned. The same anchor reportedly got in hot water six months ago when, during a report about a grandmother, used the term "grandmammy," which offended some viewers and ended up with Bassett giving an on-air apology.
