A.I Clones Teen's Voice In Kidnapping Scam

As if the future wasn’t scary enough, a possible new voice scam might be going around that causes big fear and could cost big money. A woman in Arizona claims scammers used AI software to clone her daughter’s voice and then allegedly tried to bilk her out of $1 million. Jennifer DeStefano thinks she was part of a “caller-ID spoofing” scam where crooks claim they’ve taken the target’s loved one hostage and demand a ransom.

DeStefano says she got a call from an unfamiliar number. When she picked up, she heard her daughter Brie’s voice crying and screaming for her mom and saying she “messed up really bad.” Destefano was convinced her daughter was in serious danger before eventually confirming that she was safe and sound on her skiing excursion. Now, she's putting a warning out to others not to fall for the terrifying scam.
