BTS' Jimin Opens Up About Depression

BTS are opening up to their fans in a new way now that its book, “Beyond the Story: 10-Year Record of BTS” has hit the shelves.

The book, which was released on the group’s 10-year anniversary on July 9th, is told in seven chapters and shines a light on some of the struggles the guys brushed up against on their ascent to stardom.

One particularly powerful story comes from band member Jimin who delves deep into his struggle with mental health during the band’s meteoric rise to fame. The singer-songwriter confesses in the memoir how he wrestled with depression that ultimately led to him isolating himself from the rest of the group. “I don’t know why I was being like that, but it was a period where I just suddenly became depressed,” Jimin shared, adding that his mental health continued to suffer under what quickly became international scrutiny.

It wasn’t just Jimin, either. “Beyond the Story” also allows BTS member Jungkook to recall how he dealt with feelings of hopelessness. Jungkook recalls in the book how he ended up drinking alone after a day of filming and was grateful to see Jimin appear in the room to comfort him.

The guys in the iconic K-pop group have never shied away from getting real about their personal struggles in interviews, documentaries, or statements and have even used their stories to help promote the importance of self-care and supporting the people in your circle.
