For over two decades, Gina Hester has been a swimming instructor in Longview, Texas, and founded Friends of Swim with Gina to combat the leading cause of death in kids between one and four years old: drowning.
The initiative is funded by private organizations and parent contributions and provides free swimming lessons to children who may not otherwise afford them.
Each summer, Hester and her team, made up mostly of former students who share her passion, teach hundreds of local children life-saving swimming skills.
