Last week, an Ohio teen heroically saved a young mother from drowning in swift-moving floodwaters. Melissa Fitzwater had accidentally walked into a flooded creek in Aurora after massive storms caused significant flooding in the area, but fortunately, 18-year-old Andrew Marino was there to rescue her.
Fitzwater was in the neighborhood working and wasn’t able to drive out because the exits were blocked by the flooding. Following a police officer's advice, she decided to walk to a nearby intersection to get a ride from her mother. However, as she reached the intersection, she suddenly went underwater and found herself in a life-threatening situation. Desperately holding onto the concrete edge, she waved for help.
Marino, who was nearby with a friend, quickly responded, jumping into the water, swimming to Fitzwater, and pulling her to safety before she could be sucked into a drainage pipe. Marino, who’s about to head to college to study finance and play football, says he helped her despite the danger because that’s the way he was raised. He also says he’s glad it worked out how it did, adding, “There’s so many ways this situation could have gone poorly.”
