A dad in Springfield, Ontario, is being hailed as a hero after running into his burning home to save his two infant children. The fire broke out in a triplex on a Saturday afternoon and a neighbor who witnessed the event says the father rushed back into the burning home and came back out with his two children in his arms.
The Malahide Fire Department responded quickly as their station was nearby. Chief Jeff Spoor says neighbors helped a woman escape from a second-story window and his firefighters quickly worked to control the blaze. The father and his two children were seriously injured and were transported to a specialized burn unit for treatment.
The fire left four families homeless and is still under investigation by the Ontario Fire Marshal, although they don’t believe it was intentional. Neighbors were shocked and concerned for the injured family, with one resident calling the father a hero for saving his children. Chief Spoor says they don’t encourage people to run back into burning buildings, but he isn’t surprised the man did that to save his children. The community is now focused on supporting the displaced and injured family members.
