When an intruder in a clown mask broke into her bedroom late one night last week and tried to kidnap her, a Colorado eight-year-old courageously fought back. According to police in Sterling, Colorado, the would-be kidnapper entered the girl’s room, blindfolded her, and then attacked her. After successfully fighting the assailant off, he struck the little girl in the head before fleeing the scene. The girl briefly lost consciousness and rushed to get her mother when she woke.
Using surveillance footage and location data from the girl’s stolen phone, authorities were able to identify and track the 56-year-old suspect to his nearby home. They also recovered evidence from the scene, including a clown mask and gloves, further tying the suspect to the crime. The girl’s mother says the suspect had been in the home a few days earlier to help the family install a washer and dryer. He was arrested on multiple charges including burglary, assault, and attempted kidnapping.
The suspect denied involvement during police questioning, but investigators say the evidence connects him to the scene. His wife confirmed that the clown mask seen in the video belonged to their grandson. Police obtained a court order for the suspect’s DNA and cell phone as part of the ongoing investigation. Although the little girl sustained some minor injuries, she was fortunately able to escape further harm because of her quick thinking and bravery.
