Community Pitches In To Replace Disabled Dog’s Stolen Wheelchair

When someone stole the wheelchair belonging to Megan Caligiuri’s 15-year-old schnauzer mix rescue, Griff, the community rallied to help. Caligiuri left the wheelchair to dry outside her Englewood, Colorado, home and the next morning it was missing, leaving her confused and disappointed. “I have no faith left in humanity that someone would steal a disabled dog's wheelchair,” she says.

After filing a police report, she posted about the incident on social media, hoping for leads. To her surprise, over 80 people responded with donations, resources, and offers of help. The outpouring of support eventually led to Caligiuri connecting with Kathryn Groenewold from Paw Prosper, the parent company of Walkin' Pets, which provided Griff with a brand-new wheelchair.

Thanks to the donation, he’s back to enjoying his outdoor walks. Groenewold was overjoyed to have played a part in helping Griff regain his mobility, saying, "We just couldn't leave this dog without wheels." Caligiuri later shared her heartfelt appreciation for the community’s kindness. “My faith in humanity has been restored,” she says, “This is how he gets around and enjoys life. Thank you, everyone, so much.”
