Dad Who Can’t Swim Rescues Infant Son From Flooding Car

A UK dad is being hailed as a hero after saving his 11-month-old son from their sinking car during a recent flood. Last week, 22-year-old Andre Randles was driving with his son Luca on a village road north of Manchester when they found themselves stranded in their car by quickly rising floodwaters. Fortunately, as the water overtook the vehicle, the father managed to roll down the windows so he could escape with the baby.

Randles says that he was unexpectedly diverted onto the flooded road due to a nearby road closure and a sudden dip in the road made it impossible to avoid the rising waters. As the car quickly sank, he instinctively held Luca above the chest-high water and trudged through the floodwaters to higher ground. He describes the experience as “really scary,” explaining that he felt he had no other choice but to act quickly to save his son.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Paige Newsome, Randles’ partner and Luca’s mom, says she’s grateful that they made it out safely. She praised her partner’s quick thinking and bravery, stressing how close the situation was to turning tragic. She also expressed gratitude for a nearby homeowner who took in and cared for the father and son after the incident.
