Troye Sivan Talks Rise To Stardom, Upbringing In 'V' Magazine

Troye Sivan's rise to pop superstardom is something that the 21-year-old giggles about from time to time because of how surreal it all feels. In fact, it's so surreal that he sometimes feels like Zoolander. That's what the Aussie told V magazine for his cover story of V103's Face The Music issue, which highlights some of the newest fashion and music trendsetters.

During the cover story, Troye went into detail about just how much he's experienced since propelling from Internet sensation to pop chart-topper, "It sends me into giggles. Like, the fact that I woke up last week and was like, Oh, I just need to quickly fly across the country to do a photo shoot with Mario Testino and then fly back to play a show," he explained over the phone. "I don't know how else to process it but to laugh. Sometimes it feels like I'm in Zoolander. I went to the Billboard Awards, I was backstage, and Rihanna just casually walked by. I was like, What the f**k? Hilarious."

Even though the pop star probably doesn't get the chance to visit his Australian stomping grounds as much as he'd like, he told the magazine that he always has a place to call home, especially since his upbringing wasn't too shabby in his home city of Perth. "I wouldn't say it's necessarily easy to be different there, but at the same time, I never got bashed up, I never got harassed. I could literally drop everything and go home and have a community waiting for me—the really important things in life are waiting for me there," he said.

It'll be a busy next few months for Sivan. He embarks on a fall tour later this year and told the mag that he's going to ask the crowd to bring a warm piece of clothing to the trek. "We can then donate to an LGBTQ homeless shelter in that city. I want a show where everyone can come and hang out and help each other out and know it’s a safe space," he continued.

Troye was shot by the legendary Mario Testino for the cover, which also features Taylor Hill. Make sure you pre-order the duel issue at V magazine shop or pick up your copy of when it hits newsstands on September 1st to read more on the pop star, Hill, Lucky Blue Smith and Kacy Hill.

iHeartRadio was on-site for the singer and Hill's exclusive in-store magazine signing on Thursday (August 25), where the star attracted a line down the rainy block in SoHo. During the signing, the two chatted with fans and signed copies of their just-released issue. Needless to say, it was a success.

"He spelled my name wrong, but it's totally okay," squealed one fan after she exited the store.
