While having dinner at a Chick-fil-A in Corpus Christi, Texas, three teens saw a homeless man sitting alone and decided to buy him a meal. And when Ryan Cook, Joshua Mechell, and Alberto Montiel heard from restaurant employees that Eddie only ever asks for water or nuggets for his pet dog, never for handouts for himself - so they decided to do more to help the selfless stranger.
"We saw him crying and we saw him struggling to buy a meal,” Cook says. “So I decided to go buy him a gift card." The teens went to a nearby Dick’s Sporting Goods and bought a coat, three shirts, hats, and a first-aid kit to surprise Eddie with. Dick’s even gave them some display merchandise and threw in $20 to help with the purchase.
Needless to say, Eddie was thrilled with the generous gesture the young men made. The guys have kept in touch with him and even plan to get him a motel room and a nice meal on Super Bowl Sunday. “We just want to make the world a better place to live in,” Mechell says, “and we want to inspire people to make a difference.” And we think they’re doing a great job at it!
