Handmade scarves and notes left for homeless to keep warm

Visitors to City Hall Park in Burlington, Vermont may have noticed some scarves hanging on the fountain railing. They were part of a random act of kindness, left there for anyone who needed to warm up.

“I am not lost. I was handmade for you,” the tag on each scarf reads. “If you are cold and need me, please take me.” And people were happy to have them. As one recipient says, “It’s awesome, whoever did that.”

The credit for the warm winter gear goes to Jessica Peck, who’s done this once before. She says she doesn’t have an agenda behind her actions, and her explanation for why she knitted them is simple. Peck says, “Everyone gets cold the same.” And anyone who was lucky enough to get one of these scarves is a little warmer now - inside and out - knowing there are still good people out there doing good things in the world.
