High School Hockey Team Celebrates Overtime Win A Bit Too Soon

Minnesota’s Hermantown High School boy’s hockey team was on a course to win their second consecutive state championship. But in order to make it happen, they had to take down their rivals – the overly named unseeded team from Monticello/Annandale/Maple Lakes. How they fit that on a jersey, we’ll never know.

The game ended up going into double-overtime in a 3-3 tie, when Tyler Watkins appeared to slap in the winning goal. That’s when the boys from Hermantown swarmed the ice, threw their gear into the air, erupted in celebration. There was one problem though, the goal didn’t count. After review, it seemed that the opposing goalie had been interfered with, and play would resume.

Unfortunately, there’s no Cinderella-underdog story to be found here. Hermantown eventually won the game without it going into a third overtime, but the moral of the story is – for the love of God – make sure you know what you’re celebrating before you start the celebrating. Otherwise you’ve got to pick up all that crap from the ice and put it back on again. And that’s just a pain in the ass.
