Amy O’Connor was watching a gymnastics event at Shrewsbury High School in Massachusetts when she ended up saving a stranger’s life. The off-duty nurse sent her 11-year-old daughter, Riley, to the concession stand for a soda when a man collapsed nearby.
The girl ran to get her mom and within minutes, O’Connor was doing CPR on Joe Flak, whose heart had stopped beating. She got his pulse back and saved his life. Talk about being in the right place at the right time!
And Flak is eternally grateful this total stranger stepped up to help save him. “She is an example of what true heroes are about,” he says of his good samaritan. “It’s people that go out of their way to help someone else when they don’t have to.”
