Penningtons, a Canadian clothing store that plus-size fashions for women, just had what is being described as a body positivity flash mob. Women came out at the event in Toronto’s Union Station wearing jeans, heels, black bras - and nothing else.
It was all part of Penningtons’ #IWontCompromise campaign, which is promoting “strength, confidence, and beauty at any size.” The women involved carried signs reading “Tweet this to spread the word,” and “Share this if you think we’re beautiful” along with the #IWontCompromise hashtag.
As you can imagine, the shirtless ladies got the attention of hundreds of spectators, but the event also got people talking about body positivity and diversity on social media - including the women who participated. Catherine Norman wrote on Instagram that she got involved to show “every person who’s ever made me feel like I was less deserving of happiness or love because of my size … that I am taking a stand against body prejudices.”
