Carjacking Suspect Thwarted By Herd Of Cows

Florida police managed to track down and arrest a suspected carjacker with the help of a herd of cows. Sanford police were chasing a stolen Subaru SUV after the driver fled when they attempted to perform a traffic stop.

The car chase ended when the SUV crashed into a ditch. Before police could reach the vehicle, the driver and one of the two passengers fled on foot. A police dog managed to track down the driver, identified as Jamie Michael Young. The other passenger, Jennifer Anne Kaufman ran into a nearby field, where she encountered a herd of cows.

The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office released aerial video of the chase, which captured over a dozen cows running after Kaufman. In the video, the pilot can be heard advising officers on the ground to look for the "large group of cows" as they continued their search for Kaufman. As one cow got very close, the pilot was worried it might attack her.

The cows herded Kaufman toward the edge of the field where she was taken into custody after trying to climb through a fence.

Richard Kondracki, who owns the cows, told WKMG-TV that the cows were "nervous" and thought Kaufman could have been a threat.

"I think they didn't realize who they were,” he said. “They panicked. The cows were nervous. That would make me panic — if all those big cows come running at you. They didn't know them. They don't know if they're there to hurt them, or steal one of the babies.”

Kaufman and Young were each charged with trespassing, petit theft, drug possession and resisting arrest.
