2nd Annual Turtle Invitational Tournament

Robots built by middle and high school teams from around Ohio will meet head-to-head in a fast-moving competition on Saturday (7/27) at the University of Akron. Adults and school-age youth are invited to view the competition and learn how they can join or support a robotics team. KSS Robotics will host its second annual Turtle Invitational Tournament from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the University of Akron’s Central-Hower south gymnasium, 123 S. Forge St. The robot game matches will start at noon. Admission is free. KSS Robotics is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support youth participation in educational competitions involving science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The organization sponsors robotics teams in the FIRST Tech Challenge, FIRST Lego League and jrFIRST Lego League. The teams are divided by age groups and include youth from kindergarten through high school. Founded in 2014, KSS Robotics initially sponsored teams in the Kent area, but the organization has grown and now supports multiple teams in the greater Akron area. KSS Robotics teams have won numerous awards in regional, state and national competitions. Through participation on the teams and in the competitions, young people not only gain hands-on experience in the design, construction and operation of a robot, they also earn points for project reports, public speaking, teamwork, community outreach and “gracious professionalism.”
