For The First Time, Pro Baseball Team Drafts A Woman

For the first time in the history of professional baseball, a woman has been drafted for an on-field role.

Alexis “Scrappy” Hopkins, a catcher, was picked up by the Kentucky Wild Health Genomes, who play in the Atlantic League. Outside of Major League Baseball, the Atlantic League is the highest level of pro ball and is an “official partner” of MLB in the southeast.

It’s been a dream of Scrappy’s throughout her life, but one she never thought would happen, so now she’s beyond excited and ready to make some magic happen on the field.
