Dennis Rodman is calling off his plans to help free Brittney Griner.
The five-time NBA champion told NBC News on Saturday that he had permission to go to Russia to help Griner get out of prison.
The WNBA star was arrested at a Moscow airport in February after vape cartridges containing hashish oil were found in her luggage.
The State Department on Monday said it was against Rodman trying to free Griner, and that his trip was likely to complicate her release efforts.
Rodman has since changed his mind and now says a trip to Russia is not in the works.
