Nightclub Bans “Staring” Without “Verbal Consent”

An Australian nightclub says it will start removing people who are caught staring at someone without that person’s consent. Club 77 in Sydney updated its “zero-tolerance policy” on harassment, and included just looking at others, saying that any engagement must have verbal consent, and “This also applies if you are, for example, staring at someone from afar.”

The club has hired “safety officers” who will wear a pink hi-visibility vest and handle any complaints or concerns. The club also says that anyone found to have “made someone feel uncomfortable,” they’ll be removed, and the police will be called.
