An Ohio man is suing a sawmill owner over wood from the tree featured in the 1994 film Shawshank Redemption.

The plaintiff, Dan Dees, says he lost a significant amount of money after around five-hundred feet of boards from the oak tree were mistakenly burned by an employee of sawmill owner William Spohn.

The litigation alleges Dees had an agreement with Spohn to prepare and store the wood for use in making commemorative items after the tree fell in a 2016 wind storm.

Prior to falling, the tree was part of the "Shawshank Trail", a collection of locations used for shooting the film, including the shuttered Mansfield Reformatory.
