Smartwatch Leads To Rescue After Man’s Motorcycle Drives Off Cliff

A man who rode his motorcycle off a cliff in southwest Utah is saved after his smartwatch alerts authorities to his accident. This past Saturday, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office received a notification about a crash report being automatically sent from a man’s smartwatch.

The alert included location data that the officers were able to use to find the man, who’d ridden his motorcycle more than 40 feet off a cliff in the Warner Valley area of Washington County. Search & Rescue crews including Washington County Sheriff’s deputies, Hurricane Valley firefighters, a Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter, and a Life Flight EMS helicopter were dispatched to rescue the unnamed man.

After stabilizing, he was transported to a nearby hospital where he was reportedly in serious condition. Despite being found in critical condition, authorities say the man is expected to recover. And he owes it all to his smartwatch.
