Grandmother & Stranger Chase Down Stolen SUV With Baby Inside

A good Samaritan helps a grandma chase down her stolen SUV with her grandbaby inside. On Valentine’s Day, Bill Gorga was at a Long Island, New York, store picking up some champagne for his wife when he saw a man jump into an SUV and speed off. Then the SUV’s owner came running out of the store and Gorga learned the woman’s grandbaby was still inside the vehicle, so he sprang into action to help her.

Gorga and the grandma sped after the stolen SUV in Gorga’s truck, chasing the suspected thief for about half a mile until they got ahead of the vehicle and forced it to stop. The grandma ran up to her SUV and jumped inside to try and get the baby back and the driver took off again with her and the baby inside. Gorga gave chase again, tailing the stolen vehicle as it sped through several small Long Island towns before he was able to get ahead of them again and get them to stop. That’s when the grandma and her grandbaby got out of the stolen vehicle.

The suspected thief continued speeding down the road until he ran the SUV into a barricade. He was arrested a short while later on grand larceny and aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child in the car. Gorga says the grandma was grateful for his help, but he’s just glad that he was in the right place at the right time. He says most people would have done the same thing if they were in his position and he’d do it all over again if he needed to.
