When Peter Judge lost his job as a cashier at a Phoenix grocery store, he called his son, Patrick McCarthy. Judge told his son he was worried about how long he could live on his savings, but he didn’t want to get unemployed, he wanted a new job as soon as possible. McCarthy, who works in marketing, decided to help his dad out and shared his dad’s story on Linkedin.
McCarthy wrote that his dad loved his job and that he really connected with his customers. He then asked that anyone in the Phoenix area looking for an employee with tons of customer service experience to reach out to him. "I'm excited for his next step," he adds. "This guy is someone you want on your team."
Thousands of Linkedin users responded to the post with comments, advice and job leads, including one comment from Linkedin staff asking to be kept up on how the job search goes. Judge still isn’t sure what he’s going to do, but he has a number of offers to consider now. But no matter how it turns out, the experience has had a positive effect on his outlook, and says, "What's happened in this past week with the reaction has completely restored my faith in humanity, period."
