Lou Ann Antrup has been working as a dishwasher at North Main Street Diner in Auburn, Indiana, on and off for over two decades. The 79-year-old would like to retire, but with bills to pay and the rising cost of living, she won’t be able to afford to anytime soon. The diner’s owner, Alicia Price, says they love to have her around but also hate that she needs to work at her age.
When she needs extra money to make ends meet, Antrup has been able to turn to Price for extra shifts, but lately she’s been working all she possibly can and it’s still not always enough. She recently fell behind on her car payments and if she loses her vehicle, she’ll have no way to get to work.
To try and give Antrup some room to breathe, Price created a crowdfund for her elderly employee and friend. The fund was started with a goal of raising $16-thousand to pay her car off, a few months rent, and possibly a few other bills. More than 300 donors have helped the crowdfund exceed its goal in a little over a week. Antrup probably won’t be able to retire quite yet, but the money will definitely provide some much-needed relief.
