Just a day after he was arraigned on 34 felony counts in front of Judge Juan Merchan, who warned him about posting inciting content on social media, former President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social platform to call on Republicans to defund the Department of Justice and the FBI. In his familiar all-caps writing style, Trump accused Democrats of having “weaponized” law enforcement. Trump himself appointed current FBI Director Christopher Wray in 2017.
Sources say that both Judge Merchan and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg have received “dozens” of unsubstantiated threats in the form of calls, emails, and letters. The Manhattan DA’s office told NBC News that they’ve taken identifying information about their staff off of their website as a precaution.
