Yeah, a bear’s gotta eat, but not on John Koerber’s watch.
In Hendersonville, North Carolina, was walking his six-year-old Yorkie when a “deep guttural growl” could be heard, followed by “thumping, running, and cracking branches.”
It was then that Koerber realized that a black bear had designs on making a meal of his beloved pooch.
As the bear lunged for the dog, Koerber reacted fast by fending the beast off with a walking stick.
A second lunging attempt got the bear another stick to the head, which bought Koerber enough time to get the dog and himself back safely into their home.
