Gayle King Shades White Co-Anchor For His Juneteenth Holiday

Yesterday was the observance of the relatively-new federal holiday Juneteenth. But over on the morning talk show “CBS Mornings,” one black anchor pointed out a somewhat puzzling occurrence.

“Is it lost on anybody that the only white guy at the table is off today to celebrate Juneteenth, and we are still here,” said host Gayle King, referring to co-anchor Tony Dukoupil- who is white. King’s other co-anchors Nate Burleson and Vladimir Duthiers (who are also black) responded with a hearty laugh, even after King added “I hope Tony is celebrating his Juneteenth holiday!”

Dukoupil was indeed absent on Monday’s show, but Burleson quickly tried to avoid scandal by throwing in a “Tony, we love you.” King responded with a quick “We do.” King is the longest-serving veteran of the current anchors, joining in 2011. Dukoupil made his debut in 2019, while Burleson joined in 2021.
