When Texas pastor Heath Haynes heard a neighbor's call for help, he assumed it was a medical emergency and immediately ran to see if he could help. However, when he got to the home of his elderly neighbors, Earl and Sharon Koehn, he saw Earl being attacked by an intruder. Through the window, Haynes could see that Earl, who suffers from dementia, was being held down while the intruder went through his pockets.
Haynes yelled at the intruder to get off of his neighbor causing the suspect to run out of the home’s back door. The intruder tried to steal the Koehns’ truck, but Haynes managed to hold him off until his wife arrived and called the police. The suspect eventually got away from the pastor and stole the truck, driving it through the fence and running into their home and another vehicle before being apprehended by police down the road.
The suspect now faces multiple felony charges, including aggravated assault of an elderly person. But thanks to Haynes' quick actions, the Koehns made it through the incident unharmed. For his part, Haynes says it’s his faith that gave him the strength to help his neighbor and he believes he was only able to hold off the attacker because of divine intervention.
