Last week, young entrepreneur James Marks found himself in a sketchy situation when four adults pulled up to his snow cone stand in front of his family’s Clinton, Utah, home and tried to strong-arm him into giving them a discount. One of the adults actually pulled a gun on the 13-year-old boy when he refused to lower his $2 price for them.
Fortunately, James wasn’t hurt during the encounter, but when word got out about it, members of the community wanted to do something to show the boy that they were behind him. Sandy Hamblin heard about the incident and wondered how someone could do that to a child. She decided to contact her friend Michael Dickermore, who gathered a bunch of his biker buddies and they all descended on James’ snow cone stand to show their support.
This past Saturday, James had a steady flow of burly biker customers at his roadside snow cone stand. As a result of the show of support from the community, James plans to keep his stand going for the foreseeable future. And Hamblin believes their effort had the intended effect of showing James that there are plenty of positive people in the world that “aren’t out to hurt ya and rip ya off.”
