A terrifying ordeal had a happy ending yesterday at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport yesterday morning. A Delta flight notified air traffic control that they were declaring an emergency after the front landing gear on the plane didn’t deploy as the plane was getting ready to land. The pilots flew by the airport’s air traffic control tower to let officials “visually inspect the plane,” where they saw that the doors for the front landing gear were open, but the gear hadn’t lowered into place.

The pilots made what’s been described by passengers as a smooth landing, with no injuries reported among the over 100 people aboard. The runway remained closed after the landing yesterday to allow the Federal Aviation Administration to inspect the plane before it’s moved. The FAA estimated yesterday that the runway should reopen tonight.
