An Australian beachgoer found a skeleton on a beach and thought it was a mermaid.
The remains appear to show a long body, ribcage, and spine and is around six feet long.
Bobbi-Lee Oates took photos and posted them on socials and noted “It was exactly like a mermaid shape, but hairy because it seemed to have a tail or limb of some sort.
We were shocked because it looked human to start with.” Several comments said it looked like a mermaid, but one expert burst that bubble.
Rob Deaville, chief at the Zoological Society of London, says it’s a dugong, a sea mammal.
Still, he couldn’t narrow it down from there. O
ates says “I was hoping someone would comment saying what it was, but the comments were all so different. And I wasn't really sold on any of them – especially considering some they said are not even in our waters.”
