On Saturday, Alex Bello of Vallejo, California, noticed a man acting suspiciously, setting fire to a field near a local Target store. "I saw somebody jumping in happiness... then all of a sudden we see flames popping out literally right in front of you," recalls Bello, who immediately dialed emergency services.
Then Bello saw the suspected arsonist attempt to escape in a Tesla after trying to ignite a second fire near a Mattress Firm store, and Bello decided to intervene. Using his years of training in mixed martial arts, Bellow was able to stop the suspect and hold him until police arrived.
When authorities reached the scene, they promptly arrested the suspect. They discovered flares in the suspect’s bag and also determined that the Tesla he’d been driving had been reported stolen. And although the fire did damage 15 acres, thanks to Bello’s actions it was quickly contained, sparing nearby houses, including Bello’s own home. In a post about the incident, police thanked Bello for his part in helping to protect the community.
