Engineering Experts Say Moon Could Host Soccer Matches By 2035

As the race for space tourism continues, scientists believe soccer could be played on the moon as early as 2035…even if it’s not exactly like the game we’re used to on Earth. Experts from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) think the game would involve five players on each side with 20-minute breaks. They also think players would have to wear slimmed-down Apollo spacesuits with a cooling feature inside.

As for referees, the team says that would be left to holograms to patrol the pitch and throw out virtual flags displayed on visors. Meanwhile, the IET believes the matches would take place at what’s called “lunar noon” in order to maximize visibility and avoid huge shadows during the game.
