"Vampire Child" With Padlocked Ankle Dug Up In 17th-Century Cemetery

Here’s an archaeologist find that immediately makes you want to ask them to put it back. A team has found the remains of a “vampire child” dating back to the 1600s in a cemetery in Poland. The child was between five and seven years old, and the remains were found lying face down with a padlock attached to one foot.

Archaeologist Dariusz Polinski said the lock “is meant to protect against the return of the deceased,” and the child was buried face down so that he would “bite into the ground and not harm the living.” It’s the same graveyard where the team found a “vampire woman” last year with a lock on her toe and a sickle restraining her neck.
