Good News: Thousands Of Memorial Flags Planted On Boston Common

Ahead of Memorial Day every year, hundreds of volunteers in Boston give their time and energy to create a tribute to those who sacrificed for us. The Massachusetts Military Heroes Fundsets up a display on the Boston Common to honor the members of the military from the state who died while defending our country.

It took 700 volunteers about an hour to plant 37,000 flags in the “flag garden.” The organization explains, “Each flag represents a patriot, somebody that has lost their life in service to our country dating back to the Revolutionary War to the present day.”

The volunteers included children and even some New England Patriots players, like Adam Butler. “I wanted to be a part of it, for me personally, because my Dad served in the Air Force,” he explains. “And I know he had friends who lost their lives, and I know this would mean a lot to him.”
