Magnet Fishermen Sell 11K Pounds Of Scrap Metal From River To Help Kids

H2O Magnet Fortunes is a group of metal fishermen in Spokane, Washington, but when they go fishing, it’s not fish they’re hoping to catch … it’s metal.

They’ve been out at the Spokane River every weekend since Father’s Day reeling in metal and they’ve collected 11,000-pounds of it so far.

The group plans to take their haul of manhole covers, cameras, and other metal they’ve fished out and scrap it, then donate the money to SOAR, a group that provides care for kids with autism and special needs.

Normally, prepared iron fetches $80 per ton, but Pacific Steel and Recycling is doubling that to help the cause. And as of now, $888 is on it’s way to SOAR, thanks to these fishermen.
