Students Give Standing Ovation To Celebrate Boy’s Final Chemo Treatment

After being in and out of school while battling cancer, a six-year-old boy got a sweet surprise from his classmates when he returned.

John Oliver Zippay walked into his Newbury, Ohio school and was met with a standing ovation, cheers, and high fives from his fellow students.

He was diagnosed with cancer at age three and recently had his last round of chemo, so there was a lot to celebrate. And even though John Oliver missed a lot of school, he never fell behind academically and he’s glad to be back there with the other kids.

“Him having to miss some of the time was tough,” St. Helen Catholic School principal Patrick Gannon says, “but the class was just so happy to see him come back.”
