“Teen Jeopardy” Champ Raises $200K For Cancer Research

Last June, 18-year-old Avi Gupta won the “Jeopardy Teen Tournament,” but what he’s done since is even more impressive.

The Portland, Oregon native started college at Columbia University and used part of his $100,000 winnings from the show to donate to cancer research in honor of Alex Trebek, the host of “Jeopardy,” who’s fighting pancreatic cancer.

Gupta donated $10,000 to Oregon Health and Science University’s Knight Cancer Center and asked others to give what they could, using the hashtag #InspiredBy on social media to recognize the people they gave in honor of. So far, his campaign has raised over $200,000 for pancreatic cancer research.

“It's incredible,” Gupta says. “It's beyond my wildest expectations that we could have made such an impact.”
