#GoodNews: Patrick Mahomes Donates Thousands Of Books To Schools

Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, surprises Kansas City schools with thousands of free books. On the same day that his team nominated him for the prestigious Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, 2020 Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes donated five-thousand books to 15 Kansas City area schools.

The donation was from Mahomes’ 15 and the Mahomies Foundation and is part of their “Read for 15” initiative. “Read for 15” encourages reading by having students sign a pledge to read for 15 minutes each day for 15 weeks.

Paul Hart with Lead to Read KC says it’s never been more important to encourage kids to read and having a sports star like Mahomes behind the effort can have a big impact. And Hart claims that just 15 minutes of reading a day can make a huge difference, saying, "If students just read even 15 minutes a day, they get almost 1-million new words per year."
